Chapter Ten

Being pissed off and keeping it from everyone when you were almost two thousand pounds worth of grizzly bear wasn’t easy, but Roy struggled to rein his instincts in. The smells coming from the group of sweaty bikers in an unventilated room singed his nose and their greed and apathy towards the danger to Clive made him want to rear up and cause them all to scatter. He was barely holding on, when Clive had to go and make it worse when he mentioned the challenges.

What the fuck was this? A wolf pack? If it was being run like one, then Clive needed a few lessons on how to behave like a true Alpha. Clive was being too damn understanding. In that moment, Roy felt a shaft of compassion for Trent, who was a true alpha in every sense of the word. How he could handle living and working with a bunch of numbnuts who couldn’t see the dangers staring them in the face was anyone’s guess.

“It’s the rules, babe,” Clive murmured quietly. “I’m sorry I didn’t mention it before. It honestly slipped my mind. But a president has to show he’s strong enough to lead otherwise the men won’t follow him.”

“Bear will understand that.” Trent leaned across the table and kept his voice low. “But no mate wants to see another fighting. If this goes ahead, I’m not sure I could hold him back if someone draws your blood.”

“What do you mean, goes ahead? You heard them. They see the Skull’s fucking drug deals as an easy way to pick up extra cash. They have no idea how much goes into keeping our transport routes secure and how hard we work on isolating the members from the big picture, so they can’t get into trouble if a buy gets raided.”

“Yeah,” Trent threw a disgruntled look over his shoulder. “I never thought I’d see the day the men I pledged my loyalty to would chuck it all away for the chance to make some quick cash. Fucking bastards the lot of them. But I’m picking up some dissent in the ranks. The members have got things pretty cruisy here and not all of them want to lose what they’ve already got.”

“They should have thought about that before they fucking opened their mouths. I hurt man, I hurt in here.” Clive thumped his chest and Roy keened softly, feeling his mate’s pain. “I know their names, their wives’ names, their kids. Where’s their fucking honor and loyalty? Whoever they choose to fight me, I’ll make damn sure it’ll be a fight no one will forget in a hurry.”

“You might want to pull back your punches,” Trent warned. “That scar I see peeking from your waistcoat comes with added benefits. You don’t want to kill anyone. Marly’s too pretty to visit me in jail when I get caught breaking you out.”

“Really?” Roy could feel his mate’s eyes on him and gave a quick nod. Yeah, he hadn’t talked about that, but then shit.
